Spiritual and Religious Sites in Columbus
The Columbus, Ohio area is home to a thriving, modern city and enjoys welcoming visitors. For tourists, there are many interesting sites to see. For those visitors that enjoy discovering touring religious sites, Columbus has a number of great churches, cathedrals and religious locations.
North Christian Church
This building has been accepted on the list of National Landmarks. Designed by Eero Saarinem, this church is centered around a spire that rises 192 feet about the surface. Open to the sun, the alter of the church is situated below the spire in the sunlight. Pews of the church surround the alter in a pentagon shape, allowing church members to see each other. The church is shaped to resemble the star of David. The level below the main floor has classrooms and the administrative offices of the church. St. Joseph’s Cathedral
This is head church of the local Roman Catholic Diocese. Constructed out of stone, the church was built in a light French Gothic design. The church has two towers that rise above the church proper. Inside of the church, the structure is supported by a series of arches and pillars. The church has stained glass windows throughout, many dating back to the 1900s. Underneath the church is a grotto where church members can be laid to rest. Tours of the church are available daily during the week. Annunciation Cathedral
This is the cathedral of the Greek Orthodox community. This church is built in the ancient Byzantine style. The church is laid out in a cross with a large center done and several smaller domes on the sides. The church is made out of stone, and the domes are covered with blue. Inside, the church is painted throughout with icons and religious scenes. Inside the church, each dome has a separate theme. Noor Islamic Cultural Center
A large and beautiful structure, the Noor Islamic Cultural Center contains a mosque, social hall, classrooms and lecture rooms. The structure is large and architecturally in Islamic design. The structure contains a dome and resembles a beautiful eastern citadel. The Noor Islamic Cultural Center isolated on a green field with a pond and is at the same time a grand and welcoming sight. Columbus Ohio Temple
With signature gold herald atop its highest spire, the pristinely white Columbus Ohio Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a beautiful structure. The structure itself is made of marble and has a very square and blocky design with surface embellishment on the outside, and art glass windows. The temple resides on maintained grounds with beautiful red leafed trees and covers a total of 10,700 square feet.
